From Bags to Market Places
My customers must be wondering where I was as the shop has not been opened for a month since end Aug 2012. It's really a pity that I have to move out and move on. I love my shop and the bag business. But life should not just revolves around work. I took a short trip to Germany, Frankfurt to escape the hustle bustle life here, not wanting to think about my dwindling business...that could possibly end on a sad note.
I always take pleasure in seeking out Europeans Market, where fresh produce and handmade everything were sold. In particular, I like everything that is made and produce in the old fashion way, in their farms or homes.
Below are some pictures that I would like to share. It ended on a high note!
I like bakery of all sorts, esp when it is freshly baked. |
Vegetables and fruits from farm |
Delightful flowers and plants |
Flowers simply makes me smile. The vibrant colours brightened up the entire place. They are so beautiful to look at. I took a lot of photos of that stall. I can imagine myself selling flowers. It must be a good feeling selling stuff that put a smile on a persons face immediately. For example, lovely pastries, cakes, chocolates, ice creams. They are affordable to all. Of cos diamonds and properties make me happy, but it is not an everyday thing and not for everyone.
Lovely roses |
Assorted colour roses |
Anyone some homemade wine in the morning? |
Perhaps some freshly apple juice instead |
Absolutely sweet honey |
Not forgetting the fattening burgers and sausages |
The evidence- yummy!

Tin Tin' Kate Spade bag again!
Ms Tin is making waves of news again cos this time she decided to put up her infamous bag for auction. Can someone approach our shop as I think we can donate some new bags for auction, for better cause.
I am a strong advocate of public service and raise funds for a good cause. I don't think it is necessary for one to get recognition for it, or for the media to create a buzz about someone charitable act. Perhaps we all got it wrong, the more publicity about the donors, the more money the item will fetch during the auction. That will probably apply if you are a great actor or singer, like Michael Jackson or perhaps the late Mrs Lee Kuan Yew. I believe people will pay for the items when the donors have created history and no longer alive. I am not sure whether the publicity of Ms Tin Pei Ling's Kate Spade bag will create the opposite effect.
I am sure the auction will go well as she has many rich supporters who will 'fight' for her bag, to ensure that the publicity won't go to waste. Whichever or whatever it is, the money will still be donated for a good cause. It is a win-win situation for all.

Another long weekend
This is another long weekend for S'poreans. I just love the thought that everyone has a break from work and spending time with their love ones or by themselves. For me, I have to work since I am running a shop but I am still glad that it is a none work day for most of us.
We have some new sequined glittering bags from Scheilan and Tory Burch which I thought these bags will be go very well with the Malay baju kurung.
I really like the Malay traditional baju kurung especially those with laces. I often see the entire family wearing the same outfit during Hari Raya. No detail is overlooked for coordinating outfits. It is always very well tailor made, same cloth for the husband and wife and of cos the kids. It is economical of scale, I suppose. You can easily distinguish them as a family by the way they dressed.
I also like the Malay family homes. They take pride in dressing up their homes with new curtains and carpets, the glittering lights to welcome their visitors. And yes, I didnt forget to mention about the yummy food they whip out. All my Malay friends seem to have this in born cooking or baking talents. The chicken curry and cakes smell delicious before you even see it. I can wait to savour them and asking for second helping.
I wish all my Malay customers Selamat Hari Raya.
Have a nice long weekend.

Wholesales prices
As we are preparing to move out of our premise, we are going to have a Clearance Sales. Anyone who is interested in any bags, please email: info@thedeborah shop.com on a first come first serve basis.
We will be selling some of our items at cost so if you are doing rental or bag business it is a good time to grab some bags from us. We will be shifting our focus to do more online/wholesales. Our prices will be competitive as we will not have to pay rent and staff, hence the mark up will be lower when we do online.
Check out our website. Prices there are before discount. Please note that the offers end 30th Sept.

Back in Action
I was missing for quite a while as I was busy sorting out our new shop concepts and whether a business merger would be viable. There are loads to think about. I am in the mist of planning our move out of Novena Square. We will update when things are more certain. At the moment, business as usual.
So, what have I been up to? I took a month break as July is my birthday month. The good thing about having your own business is that you take control of your time. The downside is there is no such thing as income.
Here are some preview photos of what's coming on our National Day Parade 2012.

Pay your own repair, please.
I met a very rude and demanding customer today and I feel so compel to blog about it. This woman, let's call her Rudetasaurs, demanded her bag to be fix free of charge and ASAP! Boutiques actually do charge us a nominal sum of money for most repairs. No one gurantee your branded bag won't tear and nobody will repair it free of charge forever.
Secondly, I told her that the bag would be sent for repair and this would take 3 months. She obviously could not accept it and flew off the handle and started raging in the shop. She wanted to bag to be fixed within a week and said I have the right to demand the boutique to get it done quickly.
I told her stictly that there's nothing I can do about it as I am not in charge of the boutique operations and I don't think I wish to make a scene anywhere.
The above was merely a sneak preview of the gist of it.
This is the ugly side of the job which I hate most, dealing with demanding and unreasonable customers. Are people becoming more and more demanding, to the point of being irritating? The more educated we are, the more demanding and unreasonable we become. We think we are higher being and deserve to be served like kings and queens.
People tend to look down on sale persons cos they probably think they are lowly educated. By the way, I have a good degree from a reputable university in UK and was from elite school since Primary One. I chose to do sales after 10 years of coperate job. I know of people who are highly educated but chose to be over-qualified hawkers, bakers, hair stylists who run their own business. My sales job is not as glamourous a job as compared to doctors and lawyers. In whatever we do, we have to treat people be it you are the customers or not, with respect.
Oh yes, back to the topic. We have no control how many days or months the boutique takes to repair the bag. You can choose to repair your bags at Master Fix, LeShine, Shukey; they probably take a week or two. And of cos, you are liable for the cost of the repair unless it is manufacture defects.

Shampooing along with a 20 mins head massage
Have you ever been to a hair salon for a hair cut and had a great head/scalp massage at the same time? The best thing is...for the price of ONE!
I was indeed surprised with the supered service provided in Kobayashi Hair Design at Far East Plaza, Level 5. I walked in for a hair cut before my dinner with some friends in town. I told the stylist how I wanted my hair to be done and only had an hour to spare. He quickly gather his tools and got going with the business as usual...I only thought. He started shampooing my hair and then massaging my temples, head and neck. I put down the book I was reading and closed my eyes so that I could enjoy the massage. This went on for at least 10 minutes.
We then went to the washing area to get a thorough rinse. He applied some conditioner onto my hair and started to massage my head again. I could almost fall asleep. This went on for another 5-10 mins. I was not keeping the time of cos.
He chatted with me and also told me exactly what he would be doing, accounting for every step. This gave me the assurance that nothing would have gone crazily wrong. Within an hour, I had a new look and felt revitalised.
The boss, Laurence happened to be around and I gave my feedback about their excellent service. He is a S'porean in his mid 30s and just started this business like a month ago. I was thrilled to know that he is also an entrepreneurs like myself.
I am a great supporter of local entrepreneurs and seek out them out to give our own local talents a vote of confidence.
My haircut cost $40, after 20% discount for all new customers.
You can make the appointment online at www.kobayashihairdesign.com
