Name after the bag

I was explaining the history of the New Jackie Gucci bag to one earnest looking customer who visited our shop. I like history and have an iniqusitive mind since I was a child. I often research on various topics which are of interest either in the library or asking my parents. These things are made easier with Google, Thank God for internet.

Ok, back to the Jackie Bag which is named after Jackie Kennedy Onassis, America's First Lady. I begin to wonder what do I have to do to get a bag named after myself? Here are some tips for your consideration

1) Be Glamourous
2) Befriend a designer
3) Wear the bag everywhere- especially to parties where celebrities will be. Stand next to them and have photos taken.
4) Befriend a Vogue or Fashion editor
5) Create a blog
6) Have a plan B: if all else fails, marry into royality and star in a blockbuster movie- not necessarily in that order.

When will I be famous?

Guess who's who?

We had our first Staff Cohesion last week at Bali Thai. The food was great, the conversation was fun. Honestly, I have not been out or had any group lunch for the longest time. I don't recall. And yes, I have no facebook, no twitter, no social time and many of my friends wonder how I live my life. Of cos, I do go out with a friend or 2 occasionally, but seldom in a group. Well, perhaps I am a borderline introvert.

All of us

So one of our conversation during the lunch was to give each other nickname after a designer. Somewhat an occupational hazards, we are talking about bags during our time off! Well, we have Hermes, Chanel, Proenza and Miu Miu. You want to pick a guess who is who? I do preferred to be called Dior though. I didn't expect to end up in 'mass' market name, or at least not some strange obscure name which I am thankful.

We have not had any comments from our readers thus far, hope someone is reading or following the blog. If you are, hope you like it.

Proenza Schouder

I can't emphasis how much I love Proenza! A friend of mine was carrying the mid-night Proenza clutch, double up as an evening bag and she looked totally stunning during a dinner function. She was wearing a short Cheong Sam and high heels...absolutely rockin it. It has so much personality, not any feminine looking clutch. I wish I could get her to send me the photo. :)
I am so tempted to get one for myself but am spoilt for choice for colours.

Clutch cost ~S$1200, available in thedeborahshop

The new Jackie O bag- Gucci

Today the must have in our bag collection is definitely a Gucci. Thanks to Aldo Gucci who was very effective and aggressive in his marketing and left his marked in the Gucci empire for sure. One effective method of marketing is to sponsor celebrities to carry your brand, which Aldo did. The celebrities were wearing Gucci  outfits, including bags of cos,  heavily photograpghed and creating a worldwide buzz.  The company struck gold in the late 60s, when Jackie Kennedy Onassis, Amercia's First Lady of Fashion, favoured their designs.
Gucci had since give a modern twist to the design of the bag, adding the iconic bamboo with an additional shoulder strap to give it another look altogether. However, the structure still remains.

Sales sales and more sales

I was out and about checking out the Great Singapore Sales in town last weekend. Besides being hampered by the Tanglin Mall flood, I managed to get onto Orchard Road, checking out the Isetan and Paragon sales. The bags sales are on, mainly Gucci, Bottega, Ferragamo and other insignificant brands, like Coach. I was kinda disappointed. Most items were past seasons colours and stocks. The sales were less than attractive to me. Of cos, there were people buying, not many though. I was expecting long queues and people waiting impatiently. None of these, thankfully.  My expedition proved to be quite smooth sailing, finished browsing within an hour, with an empty shopping bag.

Back to our shop, I think thedeborahshop fair much better in terms of choices and prices. All our new arrivals are at a all time low price. Our new classic range Celine shopping totes and Proenza are doing well.

PS1 Large, $2610; thedeborahshop has many colour available

Soft leather, double belt fastening straps and postman lock

Indeed a celebrity bag

I have to say a few words about Proenza. This bag is still quite new to Singapore, but not so in Hong Kong and Taiwan. In fact, it is so well sought after that they were all sold out when it was first introduced. It started from with a popular Taiwanese talk show. We have the video clip on that episode in our shop. Just ask anyone in the shop and we can play it for you. Thanks Eden for downloading.
Apart from that talk show, I have to give credit to the designer. The bag is chic and rock cos of it straight/strict lines. Somehow it just add so much personality to your style when you carry this bag. The leather is soft, make it so comfortable to be an everyday bag for work and weekend. It is big enough to put your daily requirements and belongings. This bag is so versatile. It brings sophistication and glamour to both day and night dress from season to season. It is certainly an 'IT' bag for a long time to come!

Com'on to our shop in Novena Square, Level 3 to check it out!

Every girl needs a gay best friend

I first realised that my gay friend gives better advise than my best gal friend 2 years ago when I was having a relationship crisis. You see, my gay friend won't shut up and just listen. He doesn't have any hidden agenda, like girlfriends who can be competitive at times, ranging from shopping deals to the choice of your boyfriends, and worse, knowing that you have put on weight and not tell you. I am not sure if I can generalise it to all gay men, but I am blessed!
I am surrounded by gay friends. My yoga instructor is gay, I see him once a week, and I only like to attend his classes. He is really funny, hence going to yoga is perceived as fun, rather than a tortour. Yes, he does torture us by making us do 'the hundreds' for 5 mins, straight! But you know, it's the only way to strengthen the tummy(flat tummy) and it is good for us! In the shop, I have become friends with gay customers who worked out in the gym, from the nearby offices and of cos, some work in the shops around the mall. They often greet us greet us with a broad smile, sometimes they will buy us food and their mannerism is candid and I do enjoy the conversations we had.

Gay friends is unlike your dad, brothers, or boyfriends. They are like a class all by themselves. They can give you insights of what/how straight men think. My gay friend gives me complicated advice to complicated situations especially when it comes to relationships. He can be trusted around my boyfriend, he pumps me up when I get emotionally deflated and of cos, he will also tell me straight in my face that I look horrible if I look horrible. He will point out if I need to go for facial or a hair-cut and make sure I drink my liang teh if I am sick. He will make sure I am taken care of before all my buying trips with a lot more liang teh. They can be good boyfriend material, but not interested in gals leh. As Sex and the City stated, "gay boyfriends are the loophole of monogamy"

Well, not all gay men give good advice. Good gay advice is not something you can count on 100 percent, like death, your one horror boyfriend, and PMS. Though it is not 100 percent foolproof, its pretty damn close.
In view of the Pink Dot movement, to celebrate love in all forms, thedeborahshop is giving 5% discount for all new arrivals if you wear Pink on 18 June. So com'on down to our shop in Pink.
